The unremembered hero

This person is a symbol of heroism of the youth,a symbol of courage, a symbol for patriotism, a person who welcomed death, his spirit is an unfalling source of inspiration for the youth even today. Thanks to the bollywood for giving a movie, so that atleast ppl can recogonise this yet another forgotten hero of the Indian struggle for independance. He is Bhagat Singh, one of the most famous martyrs of the Indian freedom struggle

a breif note on him....

He is Sardar Bhagat Singh (1907-1931), a person who knowingly walked into the jaws of death, at the age of 24, with a smiling face with the sole wish of freeing his motherland from the clutches of the British rulers in INDIA.

Born in a family of patriotic fighters, he too got essence from his family even at a tender age. He grew up to become a freedom fighters just as his father and uncle's were. The very idea of revolution was planted in his mind at a tender age itself. At the age of 12, when he heard about the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, he visited the site and collected a bottle of mud, wet with the blood of the Indians who died and put the bottle in a niche a worshipped it with flowers.

He thought of starting a revolution in India, like the russian revoloution and he was working towards it. Though he did many jobs, for instance working for a publisher, running a dairy farm etc, he simultaneously worked towards the revolutions( he learnt to make bombs and set up a bomb factory).

The death of Lala Lajpat Roi, while opposing the simon commission, was a terrible loss for the freedom struggle and Bhagat was appointed to kill the officer who ordered the lathi charge, which led to Lajapat Roi's death. But the identity of the officer was mistaken and they eventually killed another person who hit lajapat roi, though their vengence was on the officer who had ordered the charge. After the killing he and Rajguru ( another freedom fighter and symbol of courage ) managed to escape but the British Government had stepped up its actions to capture him.

Unable to resist the torture suffered by the villagers, both Bhagat singh and Rajguru decided to surrender to the police, fully konwing that death was certain. They decide to throw dummy bombs and get the attention of the polic. They did as planned, the bombs never hurt anyone and the two stood with pistols in hand. When the police backed on seeing the pistols, they dropped their pistols and surrendered. Eventually they were hanged to death on march 23, a day before the actual plan (march 24) and the body was secretly burnt to ashes, so that none of his family members even could get a glimpse him/his body, for one last time.

"The aim of life is no more to control the mind, but to develop it harmoniously; not to achieve salvation here after, but to make the best use of it here below; and not to realise truth, beauty and good only in contemplation, but also in the actual experience of daily life; social progress depends not upon the ennoblement of the few but on the enrichment of democracy; universal brotherhood can be achieved only when there is an equality of opportunity - of opportunity in the social, political and individual life." — from Bhagat Singh's prison diary, p. 124

So y suddenly about bhagath singh

75 years after his sacrifice, 59 years after freedom, today(september 27th)
is the birthday of a young person, who was known for his fearlessness of death and his appreciation of martyrdom. Sad part is his date of birth is not as famous as that of aishwarya rai's ( no offence, just an example). A man, who hoped his death would inspire the youth of India to unite and fight the British Empire, is almost forgotten in this age.

It is even acceptable that his his birthday has been forgotten, but the worst is that he along with two others(Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev), who were freedom fighters and sacrificed their lives for the sake of the nation and its well being, were described as terrorists in one of the school history books. Dosent he deserve the recognition and shouldnt his birthday be celebrated or better remembered.

a few quotes by the martyr

it is easy to kill individuals but you cannot kill the ideas. Great empires crumbled while the ideas survived

I have been arrested while waging a war. For me there can be no gallows. Put me into the mouth of a cannon and blow me off.
